Welcome to The Gals Get Zen! During recording today, Maggie asked where the idea of a podcast came from and I feel like that’s a tough question that has a long-ish answer.
My life today looks very different than it did a year ago. I realize now that I was deeply unhappy with a lot of aspects of my life, but especially with myself. I’ve always struggled with a feeling of not being “enough” and I think a lot of people (women in particular) can relate. I felt like I wasn’t a good enough partner, friend, co-worker, sister, daughter or human in-general and it made me depressed, anxious and sluggish. I didn’t value myself and was making lifestyle choices that perpetuated that type of thinking.
I made the choice to explore who I am through a mix of self-improvement techniques, like self-help books, therapy, and redefining my relationships with exercise and food. This led to becoming interested in non-traditional methods too, like crystals, reiki, natural medicine, meditation and Ayurvedic practices. I also made the choice to stop drinking. And that’s when things got really good. My mind is clearer, my spirit happier and my relationship with myself is loving. I can honestly say that I am happier now than I have ever been. And wouldn’t it beautiful if everyone could experience that? That’s where the podcast came from.
I’m still figuring out what brings me true fulfillment, but I knew I wanted to bring friends along for this spiritual journey. And I knew that Maggie would be a perfect podcast co-host because she’s funny as heck, has strong opinions about the world and is down to try (almost) anything.
The Gals Get Zen is a podcast for anyone who wants to make a change but isn’t sure how or what. It’s a starting place on your journey to being happier. We’re not experts – just two gals who are willing to put ourselves out there, try things outside our comfort zones and report on our experiences. We’re excited to have you along for the ride.
